Headlines in the Fashion world always seem to break before us here on the Left Coast wake up. Here’s what you’re missing (so far) if your alarm resides in Pacific Standard Time:

Comic-Con Fashion: Jaw-Dropping Costumes Made From Your Free Tote Bag [LA WEEKLY] – Seriously impressive designs at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, CA, made entirely from the free tote bags given to attendees. Comic-Con is usually the best place to spot the worst in fashion, but I have to give a creative thumbs up to these particular haute couture for ingenuity and fun. [LINK]

Michelle Obama Honors NDA Winners [WWD] – This year’s winners list of the National Design Awards included Mr. Thome Brown of the eponyous Thome Brown label based in New York. This is a pretty huge honor for a guy who never went to design school. Congrats Thome! [LINK]

Royal fashion: Inside Kate’s $55,000 wardrobe [Calgary Herald] – What would you do with a $55,000 staple for your closet each year? Check out images of some of Kate’s finer picks. [LINK]

Rhianna to Design Fashion Collection [Business Standard] – Why not? Rhianna teams up with Brit label River Island to create a capsule collection for Spring 2013. Keep your eyes on the net to get your hands on the Where Have You Been singer’s inspirations from across the pond. [LINK]

The 10 Finalists for the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Competition Are Announced [Vogue] – Vogue/CDFA’s fashion fund has been a hot bed for guiding fashion talent since 2003. Past winners include Billy Reid, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler, and favoriteAlexander Wang. Best of luck to all the nominees! [LINK]
