What: Style Fashion Week has been a mover and shaker over the last couple years of what became the fragmented Los Angeles Fashion Week. The production quality, quality of designers and the venue are all top notch, and personally I found the shows to be exciting and energizing to the LA-base.
While there were over 20 shows this year, I was only able to attend a small sample. The six shows I chose to attend were incredibly well thought out, and the designs made me proud to be in LA. Local Socialite had a level of sophistication, diversity of style and great pops of color that I could see making it woman’s favorite go-to brand. Madison Park Collective was an incredibly engaging show, not only because it was hip Spring / Summer menswear, but they surprised the audience with a mid-show dance number to Michael Jackson’s bad. Madison Park knew how to get our attention.
On Thursday evening I was able to attend back-to-back shows Bri Seely, JHaus, Kait Blu and Patuna Bushyhead. What beautiful clothes. Bri Seely really caught my attention with her use of beautiful blues. JHaus was another great show that knew how to energize the crowd with the assist of a pop violinist, who I have since found out is the incredibly talented Jennifer Spingola. A very novel addition in my opinion. Kait Blu earned a ton of respect that night as she is a 17-year-old designer from Nebraska of all places! Finally Patuna Bushyhead brought elegance back to the runway…oh, and it didn’t hurt that Michael Phelp’s girlfriend Megan Rossee happened to be walking for her. My only grip with the Patuna show was a flagrant use of jeweled pieces that otherwise distracted from beautiful designs.
When: October 15 – 19, 2012
Where: The Vibiana. Another incredible venue! Wow, this 130-year old former church was pristine and created a moment in time for each designer lucky enough to show on these grounds.
